San Diego May 2015, Day Two

20150502_121537Up by 6 a.m. to commune with my grandson who was already up.  Healthy breakfast,  no no the pickle he is eating was for lunch not breakfast.

We headed up to hike the Torrey Pines State Reserve.  What a gorgeous place!  You stand on a cliff overlooking the Pacific ocean.  The trails wind through the untouched wilderness filled with bees in the wild flowers and the unseen rattlesnakes.

$14 per car load to enter the reserve and if I were to do it again, I would not come during the weekend.  Literally  1000’s of people enjoying the trails.  Can you say “cattle call?”

We headed to downtown San 20150502_103511Diego and ate at the “Rare Form” restaurant that received a very high review.  Woe is me.  Fried Chicken raw in the middle.  Won’t be back.

A nap in the afternoon and dinner about ready.  Great day.

Birthday in San Diego—May 2015

20150501_181111We headed off to San Diego at 730 a.m. to help Marisa celebrate her 37th birthday.  Libby loaded the car with her upside down pineapple birthday cake.  Quick breakfast from McD’s and in 2 hours and 49 minutes we made the 179 miles comfortably with 35 mpg on the Honda CRV.  Gas is close to $4.00 a gallon again here in Cali for no good reason other than the state loves the taxes and oil company loves the profit.  Dangerous partnership for the consumer.

It was 84 degrees here in San Diego and we had a bite for lunch at Boudin Bread Deli.  Great food.  Nap, the kids got home from work and then Risa’s birthday dinner at the “Great Maple.”

Quiet evening visiting and to bed.
