Day 1, Five Passes Climbed

14 Jun

We took off promptly at 0600 a.m. and drove 542 miles and averaged over 34.4 mph in spite of climbing over seven summits in four states; California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah. Great weather and even at 7120 feet and snow along the highway, it was a great start to our trip.

We stopped at our favorite cheese store in the green valley full of cows who’s milk goes to Dairy Farmers of America in, Utah. Best Gouda cheese we have ever eaten including in Holland.

Stopped at our favorite restaurant in St. George, Utah. Best beef noodle soup and corn muffins I’ve ever had!
We stopped tonight in Richfield, Utah which is in a valley surrounded by mountains with snow still on the peaks. Sleeping at 5356 feet tonight and tomorrow we will cross the Rockies and multiple 11,000 foot summits.

We have taken this trip so many times and yet, we always see something new. Big day tomorrow.
