Grand Canyon 2014, Days 3,4

We spent the third day of the trip on the rim of the Grand Canyon.

The hotel was OK and the herd of elk was all around out building which was part of the forest. We had breakfast at the Bright Angel Lodge which was great. We rode the buses to see more of the South Rim. Free of course.

We then boarded the train heading back for Williams. That is when the train robbers struck!

We got up early this morning and had breakfast and headed back to Palmdale; 435 miles in 7 1/2 hours. We hit sand storms and 40 mph winds but survived it all. Over all, a great 4 days trip. Highly recommended.

 

Grand Canyon 2014, Day 2

A long day.  Up at 6:30 a.m. and got the luggage down to to the lobby for transport down to train.  Great breakfast and out to the area for the “Wild West Show.”  Met “turtle” one of the cow boys and he was fun.  He loves his job. 

Loaded on the train.  Dome car and a great 2 1/2 hour trip to the grand canyon.  A bus tour, lunch…just ok…then a long walk along the rim.  Checked into our hotel and kicked back for a couple of hours before dinner.  Long walks at 7000 feet up hills makes one puff.  Great day. 

 

Grand Canyon by Train, Day1

We have been wanting to see the Grand Canyon again.  Its been 25 years…not even a twitch in the Grand Canyon time…but a long time for us humans.  We could have just driven up to Canyon but we decided to do the Grand Canyon Train from Williams, AZ.

We left home at 7 am and arrived in Kingman, AZ where we at at stopped to fill with gas…77 cents less than in California.  Nice.  We got 35 mpg with the 370 miles with the Honda CRV.  Can’t complaint there.  We ate at the Cracker Barrel and had their special, turkey, dressing and green beans for $5.99.  Mmmm. 

On the road again on to Williams were we signed into the hotel, got our food tickets and train seats for tomorrow.  Good food for dinner at café.  Great start on our vacation.  Oh yes, 22 degrees tonight.
